About Project Liturgy

John

Hi, I'm John. I have a passion for the Liturgy of the Hours, and I have a strong affinity for the 1954 Breviary.

How I got hooked

The first men's night I went to at church, we prayed Compline together, and I've been hooked ever since. I fell in love with the rubrics and the page flipping. Most people find that annoying, but it's one of the reasons I keep coming back. Then I found the 1954 Breviary on Divinum Officium and fell in love with how rich and in-depth it is.

My favorite Hours

My favorite Hour to pray is Prime, followed by Lauds. Prime, at least in the 1954 Breviary, really hits my soul and strips me down to nothing. It also gives me interesting info about past martyrs and lost or forgotten saints. Lauds is a great way to start the day in either version of the Hours.

Why I started it

Project Liturgy started simply because I didn't have the money to buy the old Breviary books. I took it upon myself to create it for me, but it's really for everyone. I've been working on it since summer 2026.

How I check the texts

The whole Breviary is done, but I'm still proofreading it. I check the texts carefully with strict AI tools, and the vast majority is accurate and verified.

Who it's for

Project Liturgy is for anyone inquiring about the faith, or a seasoned Catholic looking for more. It's really for everyone at the end of the day. My goal is to grow it into a legit ministry that helps people come to the faith. I'm not trying to get rich or anything, but donations do help.

Serving at Mass

I altar serve at a local parish in my area. I've been serving for about a year now, at both the Novus Ordo and the Traditional Latin Mass.
